Setup guide
From first power-up to live alerts.
Watch the Wi-Fi setup, then the alerts walkthrough. Power on ThawHawk, join your network, create your account, and turn on freezer alerts.
How to set up
The video covers each of these. Use this list when you are standing in front of the sensor.
-
1
Power it on
Plug in ThawHawk. Wait until the status bar turns red and the screen shows the Wi-Fi mode message.
-
2
Connect to Wi-Fi
Join the CalSense_ network from your phone, then follow the screen onto your home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. When the device shows Register, write down the MAC address. Hold the case button about 3 seconds if you need to start Wi-Fi setup over.
-
3
Create your account
Open thawhawk.com, click Login, then Create an account. Enter the 12-character MAC exactly as it appears on the device and click Find my sensor. Add your household name, email, username, and password, review the privacy policy, and create the account.
-
4
Sign in and set an alert
Open the confirmation email, then sign in. Use the alerts video below to add a temperature alert and an offline alert.
Prefer a network cable? ThawHawk also connects with PoE, which carries power and internet on one plug.
Create alerts
How to set a freezer alert.
After you sign in, add a temperature alert and an offline alert so ThawHawk can text or email you when something is wrong.
-
1
Open Add Alerts
Sign in to your ThawHawk dashboard. On the freezer card you want to watch, click Add Alerts.
-
2
Choose what to monitor
Pick a temperature condition, the probe (Freezer, Refrigerator, or Room), and the threshold in °F. You can also choose Sensor is offline.
-
3
Set duration and notify
Choose how long the condition must last, then text or email, and enter your phone number or email address. Click Save alert and look for the confirmation banner.
-
4
Add offline coverage and test
Add a sensor-offline alert as well. Confirm the phone or email is correct, then send a test so you know the message arrives.
